case studies

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

The publisher wanted a DVD to demonstrate and model some of the parenting techniques described in a new book by parenting expert Alan Kazdin.

Meeting the goals of a diverse group of constituents, Vida worked with the author and his staff, parents and publisher to tape a series of interviews and behavior modeling sessions. Vida produced and edited the entire program.

"Houghton Mifflin's experience with Vida was superb."

"Vida's truly expert staff took the lead on a complicated and unique process involving book editors, marketing and publicity directors, a high-profile author, therapists, therapeutic clients, and more. The planning, filming, and production process was efficient and collaborative--and more than a little fun.  The end result is a short film of lasting value and impact."

Deanne Urmy, Executive Editor
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum received a three year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to demonstrate that children in urban, under-resourced schools learn critical thinking skills in a multiple visit, art-viewing program conducted by museum educators.

Vida producers followed children and teachers for three years and produced a documentary illustrating the study’s (positive) findings.

"Vida helped us tell our story accurately and powerfully."

"Vida staff took the time to understand what we wanted this short film to convey, and then figured out how to best communicate those ideas in a visual narrative.  I've found that watching just five minutes of Vida's incredible film is enough to convince even the most jaded educator that our program works and more importantly, why it works.'

Margaret Burchenal, Esther Stiles Eastman Curator of Education & Public Programs

The National Institute of Mental Health

The National Institute of Mental Health is the largest scientific organization in the world dedicated to research focused on the understanding, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders and the promotion of mental health.

The National Institute of Mental Health contracted Vida to research, design and produce a Web-based program to train prenatal health care providers about mood disorders in pregnancy.

"It was an up close and personal experience."

"Vida’s videos provide accurate and sometimes complex information in a way that is easily understood by consumers of health care, regardless of the consumer’s literacy level."

Heather Reynolds, CNM, MSN, Associate Professor
Nurse-Midwifery Specialty Program at Yale School of Nursing

The Independent Women of America

The Independent Women of America collaborated with Vida to produce thirteen video portraits of women supporting Barack Obama for President. Vida created a Web campaign to reach working class, female voters in swing states during the general election.

"I distinctly remember sitting around the table at our meetings..."

"...listening to the conversation fly. I thought to myself, what a group of strong, funny, brusque, business-like, eminently positive women. And I get to say I know them!"

Mary Jane Doherty, Associate Professor of Film
Boston University

The Spiral Foundation

The Spiral Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports research and education to further the understanding of sensory processing disorder. The Spiral Foundation needed an uplifting centerpiece for its annual fund raising gala. Vida produced a short documentary designed to motivate the organization’s top tier of donors.

"Vida listened to our Ideas..."

"...did their own research, asked questions and truly collaborated with us to formulate a plan for our video. I was immediately impressed by the Vida staff. They managed two days of shooting with sensitivity and good humor and weeks of editing and re-editing, often by committee. Vida produced a wonderful short video that more then met our expectations."

Anne Trecker, MS, OTR/L, Former Director
The Spiral Foundation

Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and Read (ROR), a non-profit organization that seeks to make literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric care, wanted to enhance an educational presentation with the addition of several video sequences modeling the use of their protocol at well child visits from 6 months to 3 years.

Vida produced 14 video sequences for this project. To facilitate distribution, we created a self-executing version of the presentation using Adobe Flash.

"The footage is excellent."

“Throughout our partnership, Vida remained vigorously insightful about our needs and desired outcome. And dare I say it? The entire Vida team was actually fun to work with. And that’s important, because under the pressure of deadlines, 'uncooperative' babies, nervous physicians, no-shows on the day of the shoot and cramped quarters, it became crystal clear that an affirmative attitude can make or break the day-of-shoot experience as well as the final product."
